Way Overdue, But Here It Is: Exotic Matter FTL
This is the story's method of FTL travel, although technically speaking it's cheating with wormholes to cover vast distances in relatively short amounts of time. A cyclotron accelerates an exotic particle. The exotic particle is guided into and fired from a firing chamber in its host spaceship. The targeting system for the particle aims it not in the space outside the ship, but at the ship's FTL destination. The exotic particle burrows into space, creating a black hole. Simultaneously, a shield of exotic matter envelops the ship and piggybacks to the particle as it travels into the black hole. In this new dimension, the ship and particle cover light years of space in hours. When the particle reaches its destination, it tears space open into a white hole. The ship's exotic matter shield allows it passage through, but as the shield collapses the white hole closes, as there is no force supporting it. The exotic particle becomes inert and useless, eventually being destroyed by astronomical forces. There it is. Thoughts?
